APC PLOTS TO HIJACK ZAMFARA STATE
KANO BASED NGO PETITION US, UK AND FRANCE LEADERS
BY OUR CORRESPONDENT
A Non-Governmental Organization, NGO, Nigerian Democratic Vanguard in Yankaba quarters, Kano State has written a petition against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. The petition which complained about the “unwholesome anti-democratic activities’ of the APC was addressed to president Joe Biden of the US, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of U.K and Emmanuel Macron of France.
The petition titled: Dark Clouds over Nigeria’s democracy and consequences for the West Africa sub-continent was submitted at the Abuja embassies of the U.S, U.K and France by the leader of the NGO, Mustapha Rabiu Salisu. According to Salisu, they were assured by the embassy officials that the letters would be sent to their President/Prime Ministers respectively.
The Nigerian Democratic Vanguard in their petition noted that a dark cloud is hanging over Nigeria’s democracy and threatens its survival. Part of the letter read, “while our democratic journey has not been accident-free in the over two decades of the civilizing experience, but the contemporary 2023 electoral experience does bear unique nightmarish peculiarities. Both local and international election observer groups (including the European Union) have declared the series of 2023 elections across the country as manipulated, rigged and violence ridden”.
In what he described as despicable political agenda, the Kano based NGO said the APC is deliberately targeting the governor of Zamfara State, Daudu Lawalin their bid to capture the entire North West geopolitical Zone in the country. The reason for such deliberate efforts to demonize and remove governor Lawal from office is not unrelated to the far away politics of 2027.
According to the NGO in its petition, “the APC new leadership has already started plotting for the 2027 election, trying to put at the saddle of leadership governors of the party (APC) to make it easy to rig the most populous block and zone in the country”.
Furthermore, it noted that “the APC led federal government are colluding with the alleged most corrupt judiciary in the world to use technicalities to quash election in opposition states. The same judiciary closed its eyes, on certificate forgery allegedly committed by President Bola Tinubu at Chicago State University.”
The petitioners notified the global leaders and influencers that the judiciary is not the only sector that has been captured, conquered and compromised by the APC. It said the so called Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is in bed with the APC led federal government.
The Kano based NGO is urging the U.S, U.K and France governments to help save democracy in Nigeria. The starting point would be to place visa ban, sanctions and seize the assets of the major perpetrators of democratic malfeasance in Nigeria, especially key leaders of APC.
According to Salisu, “we hope these countries we sent petitions to will live up to the tenets and standards of democracy by acting in the interest of the masses in Nigeria who are bearing the brunt of mis-governance.
Time will tell.
