Our attention has been drawn to yet another mud-sling by professional bad loser(s), whose stock in trade is the bringing down of the administration pavilion’s roof, whenever they lose a contest, no matter how credibly organized.

For context, the trustees and members of the Edo Unity League Worldwide played an astute role in the countdown to the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor for the University of Benin from April to 24th October 2024. The Internet never forgets, a Google search on our group will attest to this incontrovertible fact. To start with, as the umbrella body of all UNIBEN host community organizations, we didn’t endorse any of the internal and external applicants for the vacant post, due partly to the need for fairness and justice. The appointment takes two major curves, the first being the SEARCH PROCESS, and the last being the SELECT PROCESS.

In our opinion, all the applicants who were searched by the Search Committee met the prerequisite for the contest, and all of them have one comparative advantage or the other and thus capable of being selected as the VC designate.

It is not unusual to find complaints of undue compromise levelled against the umpires by a contestant or a group of contestants after the proclamation of a winner. But, those who have bile and a-must-win mentality are bad losers and unfit for sensitive public office, due to lack of the spirit of sportsmanship. However, we make hold as to say, that, it would have been against the run of play if Prof. Edoba Bright Omoregie SAN wasn’t listed among the first class nominees, in view of his unasailable professional and administrative pedigree.

Evidently, this piece by Sahara Reporters underscores the fruitless effort of a mischief maker at work. The last time we checked, there has been no contest (academic or political community) that a winner enjoyed total acceptability from the league of contestants. . As a matter of fact, the position Prof. Edoba Bright Omoregie SAN held in Abuja before the VCship contest was not less than that of a Dean by any quantitative barometer. He is an accomplished legal.luminary and has attained the pinnacle of his Bar career as an SAN.

The Governing Council considers academic brilliance as well as a measured capacity to preserve the security of the University in the face of real or perceived existential threats. For the Governing Council, merit is a compound word for academic brilliance and a measured capacity in security intelligence management, and a comparative advantage in strategic outreach. The choice of Prof. Edoba Bright Omoregie SAN sent spontaneous thunder of celebration across the layers of the university’s host community. The lecturers and students community feasted in celebration for weeks, as a mark of love for the VC designate as he was then called. The University alumni were not left out in the frenzy of jubilation as the VC designate is a quintessential fellow-of-impact as far as team play is concerned.

Those who have engaged him since assumption of office have eloquently testified to the prolific judgement of the Governing Council, because of his astute result-oriented approach to rapidly advance the hospitality and welfare of students, as well as aggressive infrastructural development of site ‘B’ – which has been largely neglected by successive administrations.

This piece by Sahara Reporters is at best – malicious, mischievous, petty and a mis-characterizing ploy, anybody can be a victim of this pedestrian profiling in future, if we refrain from condemning the notoriously known online mischief making tabloid.
